happy world nutella day!

in honor of world nutella day, i wanted to bake something chocolatey, hazelnutty, delicious. but my terrible hangover insisted that it be dead simple and require almost no effort. enter nutella mezza luna. mission accomplished.

nutella mezza luna:

  • 1/2 package of frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • nutella
  • 1 egg
  • coarse salt

  • preheat oven to 350
  • dust workspace with some flour and roll out the puff pastry very thin. it helps if the pastry is cold/cool when you work with it. it only takes a moment to roll it. cut out 2" rounds.
  • drop about 1 tsp of nutella in the center of each circle. the inclination is to use a sizable amount, but that will result in a delicious disaster when the mezza luna explodes
  • mix the egg with some water in a bowl. brush this egg wash around the edge of each circle.
  • fold circles in half, making sure that the nutella is securely contained. press edge with a fork to help keep it together.

  • transfer to a baking sheet lined with parchment and brush the egg wash onto the tops. sprinkle them with a little coarse salt.
  • bake for about 15 minutes, until the tops are golden.

makes 24

this might be the only thing i eat all day. praise be nutella.
