oahu- where every shot of the sky is guaranteed to be dramatic.

this was the pre-trip map. we didn't hit up all these spots, but the following are what i can highly recommend:

• uncle clay's house of pure aloha- a must. a magical man serving the best shave ice.

• honolulu cookie company- there are stores all over the island. dark chocolate lilikoi is where it's at.

• yataimura quality food court- the japanese food court in the ala moana center is a very interesting place to grab lunch. takoyaki, sushi, noodles, pickles, bubble tea, waffle bears. it's got it all.

• giovanni's shrimp truck- gloriously messy, garlicky shrimp.

• kona brewing company- tasty pints. and nibbles.

• hula grill waikiki- good food, and good view of the sunset.

• iolani palace- gorgeous. highly photogenic.

• hawiian state capital- gorgeous. highly photogenic.
