pickle party!
a while back, my friend laura and i took a pickling class at the brooklyn kitchen. it was super fun, and we ate a lot of pickles, and she was totally inspired to purchase all the supplies including an enormous pot and a ton of jars.
we gave it a serious work out today, producing 4 pickles: garlic dills, dilled carrots, basil watermelon, and chili watermelon rind. all of the recipes came from the amazing book: The Complete Book of Pickling
now, jarred pickling is not for the faint of heart. it is a procedure filled with sterilization, brining, and a lot of boiling liquids. i don't have the qualifications to instruct others how to do this accurately, so if you're interested in pickling, get a good book or take a class from a trained professional. all the better to do it with a friend- it's way less scary with a partner in crime, and it's fun to bs all day and end up with a wall of pickles! i can't reprint any of the recipes from the book, but i can share a recipe from the class:
