things to do: beach day!

sandcastles+ inflatable giraffes= a great day at the beach

being at the beach is not an excuse to get lazy. even vacation time can be productive! we lucked out by getting a good rain all morning, that cleared up by the afternoon. the sand was perfect for castle building, so we went to town:

our approach was to make a 1ft wide moat around the perimeter, dumping its contents into a mound in the middle. at this point, a spray bottle would've been ideal, but i never remember to bring one until i get to the beach. i kept a bucket of water nearby to sprinkle the pyramid when it was too dry, and it worked out. a few hours of carving circular balconies, staircases, and tunnels (without any plans), and we ended up with an m.c.escher-esque fort. not too shabby.

i think the inflatable giraffe (purchased at the balloon saloon), had the most fun of anyone on vacation. he played on the beach, got a tan, took a swim in the ocean and the pool, showered, played cards, and had quality time with the family.
