white wine sangria

sangria season is in full swing

sangria is an ideal summertime drink, but i rarely order it for 2 reasons:

  1. when triple sec is added, i get a hangover (can't mix my alcohol)
  2. when sugar syrup is added, i get a hangover (delicate constitution)

this version uses only wine, sweetened with fruit juice and ginger ale. almost any combo of fruit is delicious, but after making some fresh fruit popsicles cherry, peach and ginger has been a favorite. if lychee juice isn't available, pear or peach would work just as well. the best part is the frozen sugar grapes- like little fruity ice cubes keeping your business chill.

white wine sangria

  • 1 bunch sugar grapes, washed and dried
  • 2 cups cherries, washed, pitted and halved
  • 2 cups chopped donut or white peaches
  • 1 cup of lychee juice
  • 1 bottle of dry white wine (sauvignon blanc is good, or chardonnay)
  • 1 bottle of ginger ale

preparation:

  • pull all the grapes off the stem and place in a baggie. freeze for at least 4 hours, or overnight.
  • add the cherries, peaches, juice, and wine to a carafe or pitcher. stir well to combine. refrigerate for a few hours to let the flavors combine.
  • just prior to serving, add grapes and ginger ale to the pitcher.
